How do you capture the essence of your child? You can talk about it, you can write about it, but most of all you can see it. In your son's toothy grin, you find his goofy sense of humor; in the dimples of your daughter's apple-ly cheeks you discover her quiet thoughtfulness.

I am a mother first, then a photographer. I am constantly trying to remember every moment of my children's development - each milestone, every quirk and every image. Formally posed, hand-to-chin images, rarely capture the soul of any child. In the best photographs of my daughter, her hair covers her face - that's who she is and how I see her.
